Driven to make a difference

Behind the wheel of every CentacareCQ Community Transport Bus, is a friendly and professional driver eager to take their passengers to their destination.

Drivers just like Bonnie Moring, who has been transporting clients of all ages around the Rockhampton region for the past six months.

“I’ve always wanted to get into this type of work – helping others to make their life a little easier. I find it’s a purpose for me,” Bonnie said.

“It’s a great service that we provide, and the clients are very appreciative of what we do and that we have this service available.”

Over the past few months, Bonnie said she has built strong relationships with her regular passengers who book in each week.

“I love talking to them,” she said.

“We generally talk about what’s going on in their lives and where they’re heading to for the day. The clients that use this service are lovely.”

Available in the Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Bundaberg Regions, the community transport service has given clients a safe and reliable form of transportation to keep them connected with the community and maintain their independence.

North Rockhampton residents Carol and Joan (pictured below), who have both been using the community transport service for more than two-and-a-half years, said it was helpful for them as it allowed them to continue to pursue their active and social lifestyles.

When the bus arrives on Carol’s doorstep, she explains she can’t help but grin from ear-to-ear.

“I’m thankful for any help I can get when it comes to making my weekly commitments,” Carol said.

“I don’t know how I’d get along without it.”

Carol said she would often use it to travel to her doctor and podiatrist appointments, Social Group Activities with CentacareCQ and shopping.

“My daughter helps me from time to time driving me around, but she can’t always take me, so the transport service comes in handy,” she said.

Joan said the service was not only helpful for getting around town but was also a great way to meet new people and make new friends.

“If we’re travelling a long distance, we’ll break out into a sing-along,” she said.

“I’ve lived in Rockhampton since 1940 and I’ve seen more of the region in the past few years than I could have imagined by using this service.”

CentacareCQ’s Community Transport is available to eligible clients of all ages.
