Kinnane & Gilbert House opening a success

Guests from across Rockhampton gather to celebrate the opening of the Kinnane and Gilbert House.

GAZING upon a newly renovated living room, Father Frank Gilbert reminisced of his days of eating dinner in the same room many years ago.

“This used to be the dining area back in the day,” he said.

“This house looks vastly different from when I used to live here. But it looks amazing.”

Touring CentacareCQ’s new short-term accommodation facility, Kinnane & Gilbert House, Father Frank shared fond memories with Sisters and Fathers of the Catholic community, CentacareCQ staff and clients during the grand opening.

CentacareCQ director Robert Sims said the morning was a huge success with more than 30 people in attendance to view the new facility and celebrate a momentous milestone in the organisation’s existence.

Named after the founders of CentacareCQ, Father Frank Gilbert and Sister Anne Marie Kinnane, the Kinnane and Gilbert House will provide a comfortable and safe haven for the aged and those with a disability who are needing a place to stay.

Kinnane & Gilbert House features three bedrooms, spacious kitchen and dining room, living room, bathroom, laundry and garage.

“Kinnane & Gilbert House is proudly owned and supported by CentacareCQ—Central Queensland’s longest running community service provider operating for more than 40 years,” Robert said.

“Guests do not have to be clients of CentacareCQ, but can still take advantage of the services the organisation offers including transport, pre-ordering meals for delivery and support from friendly, experienced staff.

“The home is also wheelchair accessible and qualified support is available if needed.”
